The Procedure

A strong bleach or gel is applied onto your teeth, and then a light or laser is shone on it to activate the whitening. The laser activates and enhances the bleaching agent for quick, dramatic results.

Post-op Instructions

Thermal sensitivity and staining can occur after a Zoom whitening procedure. Sensitivity to hot or cold liquids occurs briefly for some period but gradually fades away. 

Your dentist at Smiline may advise you not to eat foods or drink liquids like coffee, red wine, or ketchup that cause teeth to stain easily, for at least a week. If you are a regular coffee or tea drinker, drink them with a straw to avoid staining freshly whitened teeth.

Aftercare

For the Zoom whitening results to last longer and maintain them, home bleaching is advised after the first professional whitening.

In the case of home vital bleaching, the use of low-dose hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide is preferred. The dentist facilitates this by giving custom-made trays, which reduce both the amount used and swallowed, decreasing the chances of damage to the patient’s teeth and gums. 

Regular application of the whitening agent for the prescribed time, around 30 minutes to an hour for each session, is essential.
